The md Material Design Research Workshop presents itself as a trans-disciplinary and collaborative network intended to link its activities with the world outside the University; its commitment in knowledge processes is to promote the design thought as a vast project of curatorship activities, and to spread knowledge through processes of dissemination of the obtained results, also thanks to self-founded and -administered communication media. The Workshop is composed by professors and young researchers specialized in the domains of materials technology, architectural projecting, interior design, product design, ergonomics, digital modeling, graphic and multimedia communication, and curatorship of exhibitions, catalogues and handbooks. The specific convergence of the research team in the rooms of Palazzo Tassoni, new monumental representative headquarter of the Architecture Faculty of Ferrara, is due to the will of capitalize and valorize the recently achieved activities along with the others that are being developed or are to be programmed. The Workshop particularly focuses on the materials and their technical usages, on constantly and rapidly changing formal languages, on the multiple applications they offer, on product design and architectural projects, on the constant relationships between traditional and innovative employments of the manufactured materials, on the strategies of technological transfert, on the modification of social, cultural and commercial trends. Among the activities of md Material Design, various curatorships – inside or outside the University – will be developed, both with public or private institutions, with the aim of promoting the interaction between different types of knowledge in an organic promotional process: from the ideation moment to the development of contents, to the simulation, management and communication of the project itself. The different competences and know-hows within the research team can guarantee fruitful results and an optimized management of the intellectual sources, stressing the relevance of producing ideas, concepts, scenarios and visions able to react with efficiency and punctuality – thanks to innovative products and services – to the challenges prospected by knowledge economy and global competition in the contemporary society.
