The Photography Matter

May 02, 2017

Many of us are accustomed to think of photography as an image on a sheet of paper: photography is not only this.
These works are the result of a journey through photography, necessary to understand what this is in substance, not only a picture put in a frame, but certainly much more: because talk about photography means talking about the matter. The materiality of photography is a key feature without which the same photography would no longer exist.
In these works, silver gelatin is no longer just a treatment given to a sheet of paper but itself becomes the sole material of the image. Silver gelatin becomes an independent object, unique skin of the printed image and in its turn new image as a new object. So the photosensitive surface not only contains the photographed image, but becomes an autonomous image itself.
The fact of becoming autonomous skin inevitably brings with it the new state of three-dimensional object, new matter and therefore potentially sculpture. So photography is detached from the wall and the frame and it becomes part of the space and sometimes it can contain it.
